My Favourite Place At Home

I’ve shared with you all a peek into my hobbies, given a glimpse of my personal style and even opened up my professional playbook a wee bit – and today, I’m going to let you see one of my retreats – my library.

Library is a grand word – it’s more of a book nook – but it’s where I like to go to relax and lose myself in a novel. Sure, it’s not as romantic as a bay window overlooking the sea, or curling up under the eaves like les bohèmes, but it’s home.

I’m inspired to share it with you after reading Julia’s post at Stylonylon, where she shares her favourite spot at home.

There’s a method to the madness on my bookshelves. One shelf is for books I’ve read and the other for ones I’ve yet to get to. And then, I organize alphabetically by author’s last name. Ouf. This is a place for relaxation, but I do feel more at ease knowing that things are orderly. I share this retreat with Jack, and I’m convinced that while I’m out of the house he makes his way through the collection.

At home, I’m not one for knick-knacks. Mainly because dust seems to accumulate the moment I’m done cleaning, and I’d rather be curled up here than scouring the condo. Priorities. That said, my bookcases house a few momentos. The horse I played with as a kid. A photograph taken by my aunt. And a Japanese maiden that I was gifted after a successful (and stressful!) negotiation wrapped up.

When I bought my home a few years ago, this armchair was one of the first pieces of ‘grown-up’ furniture I bought. It was love at first sight (how can you resist the MacIntosh roses?!) and the stars were aligned…I scooped up the last one in the city.
